The British Farming awards held on the 21st October gave recognition to the brilliant work of David Hill, creator of The Greatest Online Agricultural Show’, who won the silver award for digital innovator of the year.
With the support of Innovation for Agriculture, David created The Greatest Online Agricultural Show which was in response to the necessary cancellation of agricultural events due to COVID-19. This innovative concept was the first virtual show of its kind and kicked off a summer of brilliant online events. It allowed people across the country participate in livestock competitions, visit virtual trade stands and watch displays from the comfort of their own homes. The event which attracted over 5,000 visitors, was free to exhibitors and the public, but donations were encouraged which reached an amazing £20,000, all of which went to the farming charities: R.A.B.I, R.S.A.B.I, FCN, YANA and DPJ Foundation.
The use of digital tools is fast becoming an important aspect of farming, and can benefit the wider farming community as well as agricultural businesses. The award was sponsored by Fullwood Packo and celebrates the incredible digital work carried out by farmers across the country. The Gold Award was won by Chris Franklin of Caenhill Countryside Care, with Anna Jones of Just Farmers and Jo Martin of Rural Business Network also selected as 2020 finalists.
